It’s time for you to quit hating on Men’s Rollerderby
There. I said it.
It’s kind of fun and tongue in cheek to laugh at how Rollerderby is the only sport where the Men’s side is looked down upon by the women’s side.
But yunno what, it’s time to get over it. Men’s rollerderby has arrived.
I just got back from officiating at the Men’s National Championship tournament and it was amazing. This tournament was as exciting as any of the WFTDA regionals this year.
The men’s teams have really elevated their game this year. Every bout I worked or watched, even the consolation bouts, were full of my three favorite things: heart, skill and strategy.
Men’s rollerderby is no longer an also-ran of teams doing this their spare time between refereeing WFTDA or laying down the track for women to skate on. These teams have worked and it shows. I loved helping out as an official but I also loved watching every single bout I got to sit for.
Tired of blowouts? Every bout I was in the stands for was a nailbiter all the way to the end.
Think the men aren’t playing a sophisticated game? Go to DNN and watch the chess match taking place in the first 10 minutes of Magic City vs NYSE.
Men’s Rollerderby has arrived. I’m celebrating the level of play every team brought to the tournament.
